5 Gauge Club Favourites
It’s Almost Summer Club Time!
Catherine and I have been making yarn and pattern clubs together for years, so I want to celebrate a few of my favourites that we’ve designed! All of these patterns are available now, and the last time I peeked at the Gauge website, the yarn was available there too, though there’s no guarantee it’ll stay there and lots of their yarns are dyed to order!

A Checklist of Birds is a very pleasing catalog that lists the birds that are present in a particular region and when they’re around. This pattern takes that concept and puts it into sock form! This collaboration takes the concept of the Checklist of Birds and roughly represents each month with two stitches so that a panel of 24 stitches is the whole year. When there’s a purl stitch, that bird is common that time of year.
This pattern is also a fantastic “vanilla” sock for any skein of sock yarn if you just leave out the knit/purl panels.

2. Three Seasons Shawl
Three Seasons Shawl is a study in opposing lines and graphic stripes. It’s constructed as a classic triangle shawl, and the self-striping yarn from Gauge Dye Works gives clear cues for when to begin the central motif over again. It’s great for relaxing summertime knitting because it’s one of those projects that’s intuitive and hard to put down!

3. Goldstream Shawl
A flowing gradient splashed with short row “leaves” turns this semi-circular pi shawl into a stunning statement piece — and the perfect wrap for your outdoor adventures. And the best part? It’s worked in a unique self-striping yarn that shifts and blends, with golden sections appearing as you knit to tell you when to work each Leaf. It’s addictively mesmerising!

4. Sun & Moon Socks
A knitted exploration of the sky has to include the sun and the moon. These socks are designed to express whichever energy you’re feeling today. The textured stitch pattern along the legs is not only beautiful and fun to knit, it also adds elasticity to keep your socks fitting comfortably. Sun and Moon colourwork are both simple charts, and they’re interchangeable so you can use either or both!

5. A Garden Wedding Shawl
My sister Jenni’s sewing projects are elaborate. Think lush velvet renaissance gowns, extravagant silk tailcoats and bustled wedding dresses. So when she told me she was getting married I knew the clothes would be incredible, and, after sewing my own embellished bridesmaid gown, I set about designing an elegant shawl to complete the look. I collaborated with Gauge Dye Works to make yarn with a stunning blue gradient and floral pink that perfectly matches the embroidery on my dress and reflects the floral garden theme of Jenni’s wedding. When you wrap this exquisite heirloom around your shoulders, you’ll feel the cozy sense of accomplishment that comes from knitting something spectacular.
