Dissent Cardigan Update
Dissent Cardigan
I designed the Original Dissent Cardigan a few years ago now and I’ve been so delighted to see all the projects that knitters have made! (Here’s a link to the Instagram tag of this sweater and here’s a Ravelry link to the posted projects so you can see the amazing work knitters have done.)
Since then, I’ve updated a few things about my pattern layout, given some incredibly helpful feedback from knitters. Dissent was next in the queue and I’m happy to share that I’ve finished the update!
Update
The changes include:
Text is black rather than dark grey to increase readability.
Layout has been updated for easier printing so that instructions and charts can be printed without extra notes or photos.
Charts have been updated for increased clarity both in colour and black-and-white and have been print-tested.
The pattern now includes charts with both Dark Main Colour and Light Main Colour so that you can choose the colour scheme that matches your project.
The pattern name and page number is now on every page.
Tutorial links and additional notes have been added to the Notes section.

Thanks for being a part of my business!
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is known for her dissenting opinions. When she reads a dissent, she often wears a particular collar, or “jabot.” It’s a striking visual adornment and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to design a yoke sweater inspired by it. This sweater, Dissent, is my tribute to RBG. May we all channel her when wearing our own Dissent.
A fingering weight pullover and a hat version of this pattern are also available.
If you know me, you’ll already know that I’m inspired by American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This is my second design that’s an interpretation of Justice Ginsburg’s Dissent jabot, a decorative collar that she wears when she reads dissenting opinions in the court. This fingering weight pullover comes with several versions to mix and match, including different sleeve and body lengths. I was thinking of persistent women as I knit all three samples. Wear yours with feminist defiance.
There’s also a worsted weight cardigan and a hat version of this design available.
I designed this toque as a fun addition to my Dissent series, patterns inspired by American Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I thought it would be great to have a hat pattern that could be used as a swatch for either the worsted or fingering weight sweater. I’ll admit that I had no plan, no thought, of Ruth Bader Ginsburg dying before its publication. Now that she’s gone, I feel like this pattern has an added weight of sadness to it. I had to stop for sobbing while re-writing this paragraph. But I also want to continue my celebration of her lifelong fight for justice and her intense and incredible accessorizing. This pattern is customizable, including instructions for beanie and slouchy versions, so make your perfect hat to (subtly) express your Dissent. Here’s to Justice Ginsburg. May her memory be a blessing.
The Dissent series also includes a worsted weight cardigan and a fingering weight pullover.
