The end of fall?

Seasons Change

It’s gotten cold here, snow has fallen, and in just the last week the leaves have blown off of all the nearby maple trees, so I’m feeling like winter is approaching fast. I was delighted to find a bunch of trees still covered in golden foliage on a walk last weekend though. These colours are bringing me a lot of joy right now, so I want to share some of that with you. This is a leaf appreciation post. Thanks, nature!

A gently sloping hill is covered in an ombre of fallen leaves. At the bottom of the frame the leaves are mostly rusty orange, and the higher up the hill you look, the more gold the leaves become. Sitting off to the side in the frame is a gnarly tree trunk.

Winter

The day after I started writing this post, it snowed and I got the most magical picture of a male Anna’s hummingbird sitting on one of our balcony cherry trees. It’s sort of a change of subject, but the colours are too pretty not to share. Plus, from now on, Anna’s hummingbirds will always make me think of my Checklist of Birds socks and the Hummingbirds-only colourway!

The Bird

The Yarn

The toe of a sock is on the needles. A cake of yarn is in the top left corner, and a completed sock is folded in the bottom left corner. The yarn is beige, Magenta, dark green, and lime green. Photo by Catherine Gamroth.

The Pattern

Here’s a link to the Checklist of Birds pattern and the yarn, and here’s the pattern FAQ in case you’ve got questions! The photo below shows the socks in the Checklist colourway and the photo above is the same pattern in the Anna’s Hummingbird colourway.
