✨ Twinkle Time! ✨
Do you love stripes?
Last year Gauge Dye Works and I did a fun alternate version of our Saxe Point socks design with a new striped colourway and a new colourwork chart. Now we’re bringing that Twinkle back, plus a new colour blocked version of the yarn!
We got a Full Spectrum toque knit up in the new colourway — it’s reversible and ever so cozy! I took this opportunity to update the Full Spectrum pattern so it matches my current layout with black text and easy printing, among other improvements. I also added some extra info about how to use just a single skein of yarn without worrying about the “rainbow” stripe section or the colourwork section of the original pattern.
You can get the pattern here on my website or on Ravelry and pre-order the yarn on the Gauge website.

A skein of colourful yarn next to a funny-looking knit object. It’s a toque that will be folded inside itself to create a doubled, reversible hat, but it’s laid out to show you the overall shape when unfolded, which is two hats meeting in the middle, so a dome on top and on bottom with ribbing in the middle. It’s pink, red, green, and blue.
One extra fun thing about the pattern and yarn combo is that it could be different depending on which end of the yarn that you start with. In our version, we started with pink, so you get all the pink, red, and green, and most of the blue. So if you make this version you’ll end up with some grey left over to use in scrappy socks or as a colourwork contrast colour in another project. OR, you could cast on in grey and go the other direction to get a grey, blue, green, and red toque. Here’s a colour map showing what the yarn looks like.

Other Ideas
This yarn would also work perfectly for a festive version of the Botanical Sampler cowl. It’s got five equal stripes exactly like the original Botanical Sampler cowl yarn, so you can just follow the pattern exactly.
And of course, there’s last year’s fun Saxe Point socks with the Twinkle chart. When you buy Saxe Point, the Twinkle chart is included as a free bonus, so you can pick if you want flowers or holiday lights at the top of your socks. Plus, I made a tutorial on how to do the duplicate stitch to brighten up your lights motif.

What will you pick?
Tell me about your project plans in the comments! We hope you love this little cheery bit of bold colour as the days start to get darker.
Full Spectrum is a clever reversible hat with fetching stripes on one side and pleasing geometric colourwork on the other. It’s worked from the crown of one side, through the brim, and to the crown of the other, so that the whole doubled hat is worked in one piece. It was designed in collaboration with Gauge Dye Works - their self-striping yarn makes this an addicting and enjoyable knit!
The yarn designed for this pattern is available in three colourways from Gauge Dye Works.
There’s also a cheery Twinkle colourway! You can get the colour-blocked version for the toque (it would also be great for the Botanical Sampler cowl) or the multi-striped version for the Saxe Point socks.
Hardy enough for adventuring yet pretty enough for lounging, Saxe Point will be a lovely addition to your sock collection. The socks are worked toe-up with an afterthought heel and shaped leg, with a colourwork cuff to top it all off. I designed this pattern in collaboration with Catherine of Gauge Dye Works. She took colour inspiration from one of my photos of Vancouver Island’s rocky seashore, and together we created a yarn designed to create a wonderful knitting experience — along with the perfect pattern to show it off. The self-striping yarn makes colours appear on your needles as if by magic. I have included instructions for creating the same effect by substituting yarn.
The pattern now includes the bonus “Twinkle” chart for some holiday cheer!

The Botanical Sampler is a lace cowl that explores some classic motifs to give a fun, rewarding project. I imagined the Agave Lace as climbing leaves and the Shale Lace as wildflowers and grasses waving in a meadow. This cowl hits that perfect balance of engaging and relaxing, elegant and basic, with a cozy shape and size that’ll keep you warm without getting in the way.
This pattern was originally the August pattern for the Gauge Dye Works Summer 2020 Yarn + Pattern Club. It’s now available to everyone. Get the yarn from Gauge Dye Works.
